Muckhart Golf Club "Old Masters" Sweep

To hit the ball upon the level
You have to be a skilful devil
But when it's on a downward slope
To skill you add both prayer and hope.

Lockdown - Week Eight
After the "Big" announcement.
Still no golf, no sweep, no news, "Stay at Home".
So here are a few more poetic words to raise the spirit.

"Seaside Golf" by John Betjeman,
1
How straight it flew, how long it flew,

It clear’d the rutty track
And soaring, disappeared from view
Beyond the bunker’s back –
A glorious, sailing, bounding drive
That made me glad I was alive
2
And down the fairway, far along

It glowed a lonely white;
I played an iron sure and strong
And clipp’d it out of sight.
And spite of grassy banks between
I knew I’d find it on the green.
3
And so I did. It lay content
Two paces from the pin;
A steady putt and then it went
Oh, most securely in.
The very turf rejoiced to see
That quite unprecedented three.
4
Ah! seaweed smells from sandy caves
And thyme and mist in whiffs,
In-coming tide, Atlantic waves
Slapping the sunny cliffs,
Lark song and sea sounds in the air
And splendour, splendour everywhere.

Week Two - Lockdown Humour - Old Masters Style.
Suffering "Mince & Chips" withdrawal symptoms.

Poem courtesy of John Simons, Aberdour GC member.
Standing on the first tee is such a wonderful sight
The choice of club must be just right
The perfect iron that reaches the green
The best shot that’s ever been seen
An easy putt to secure a two
A fine start that will surely do
Moving on, a  par at the second
Is better than many would have reckoned

And now the third, without a word
A perfect drive that splits the fairway
This round will definitely make my day
The fourth will be easy, it’s shorter now
Another birdie take a bow
Towards the fifth and up the hill
Not even out of breath, what a thrill
A swish of the club that struck the ball
This one’s gone the furthest of them all.
Wait a minute someone’s talking - how can that be?

"Wake up dear, here’s another cup of tea".

Oh how I miss my golf.
